Principal's Message - TRAFFIC TROUBLE 🚗🚨
Dear St. George Families,
PARENT TRAFFIC has been terrible lately! So many parents are doing their own thing, oblivious of other cars, and not following the rules causing back-ups, cutting each other off, and double parking with kids running into the road. I saw two near misses this week alone between cars, and I saw a few cars cut too close to kids! SLOW DOWN PEOPLE
SCHOOL starts at 7:55. PLEASE PLAN YOUR MORNING so you can be at school by 7:45! Give your child a moment to relax and visit with friends on the playground before school starts. Running in at the bell or right after causes stress for your child and the teacher who has already started the day.
Waking kids' brains up before school is crucial for optimal learning and academic performance because it helps them be more alert, focused, and receptive to information, leading to better memory and learning capabilities.
RULE # 1 DROP OFF ONLY HAPPENS at the main building. Not Kinder!
YELLOW CURBS are drop off/pick up and go: a two minute or less transaction.
PARENTS/Grandparents may not park out FRONT on the yellow curb indefinitely. Some come an hour early and sit there hogging up the curb until 3:15 causing back-ups. We have plenty of neighborhood parking AWAY from the yellow zones. The church has a whole empty lot. If you want to come early, PARK ELSEWHERE and walk. This is especially true if you have a child on patrol who isn’t free until 3:15.
The teachers have committed to getting all kids out at the door 3:00-3:05. They will be out in force daily starting today, reminding parents about the traffic rules, and keeping PARKED cars moving. It’s not just about you: other people want to pick their kids, too!
At 3:00, if the kids see their car, they are to load immediately and go home. If not, they wait out front looking for your car.
Any car parked on Dawson or 13th has until 3:05 to grab their child. If their kids are not out, then the parents will be asked by the teachers to drive around the block to allow a family who is ready to grab their kids go! Long term parkers are slowing down the whole process!
In the AM- Beat the traffic and come between 7:40-7:45 and let your child play on the playground for free.
In the PM, Be prepared to drive around the block if you child is not out and ready to go. If you want to park, then go to the church, go to 12th or go up in the neighborhoods and walk enjoying the spring flowers
