Emergency Weather Procedure
Posted January 13 | from Mrs. Wingard

In case of inclement weather, St George School will announce any delays or cancellations on the school website via twitter by 6:30 a.m. This will be our primary and only official vehicle for communication.

We will also communicate this information to KOMO, KIRO and KING media outlets. However, because of changes in their reporting policies, we cannot ensure whether, or when, announcements will appear. In cases of delay where we have a 10:00am opening, there will be NO Morning Care Program. Students may arrive at 9:45 am, no earlier. King5.com has a section where you can sign up for text alerts in the event our school is closed or delayed.

Ultimately, our highest priority is the safety of our students and families. Regardless of the official start status of the school, we always defer to parents in the use of their own best judgment with regard to whether, and when, it is safe for their children to come to school. When weather conditions dictate that families cannot accommodate the regular school schedule, there will of course not be any negative consequences for individuals making alternate decisions in the interest of their children's safety.

No Parking Yellow Zones
From Mrs. Wingard  •  on January 12, 2012

Thanks for respecting our No Parking Yellow Zones. In the interest of safety and smooth traffic flow, we ask parents to drive southbound on 13th Ave. during drop – off and pick up and westbound along Dawson Street on the south end of the school. Even though this pattern may force you to drive a block or two out of your way, it helps protect everyone's child and gets you where you need to go more smoothly. Having traffic both ways with cars parked everywhere is a recipe for trouble when transitioning 223 students. Children’s safety comes before convenience every time!

After School Clubs
From Mrs. Wingard  •  on January 12, 2012

Next week ALL of our new after school clubs begin. Be sure to check the FCE for the various fliers. Fill them out and send them in ASAP. We have Monday Math Club for students in graders 6-8 taught by Mr. Rinker, a high school math teacher. Ms. Fredette is also teaching a math club on Mondays in the form of knitting! Ms. Lana has offered another Monday Art Club. Study Hall continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays with an additional day on Mondays for student in grades 3-6 with Ms. Hanley. Be sure to purchase your $24 trimester Study Hall pass from Mrs. Fontaine. Lastly, on Friday’s, Mr. Virdell continues with Scrabble Club. Thanks to all the teachers and parents who are volunteering their personal time for the benefit of all St. George's kids! We welcome new club ideas and volunteers to run them at any time! Do you have a talent to share?

From the Yearbook Club  •  on October 28, 2011

Hey everybody! For several decades St. George had its yearbook done by Sue Byrd. She was gracious enough to take time out of her schedule to take our pictures and organize the pages for us. Now St. George are continuing her tradition with a new Yearbook Club! We will be in charge of taking pictures at all of St. George's fun events as well as clubs and classes. The Yearbook Club is made up of 7th and 8th graders of St. George School. We are Miss Fredette, Mrs. Dittrich, Audrey, Caitlyn, Chelsea, Michelle, Malia, Serenity, Vanya, and Zion.

Mathematician in Residence
From the office  •  on September 29, 2011

St. George was offered a grant for a Mathematician in Residence from the Explorations in Math program for this academic year.

What this means is that starting next Wednesday, Dave Gardner, a Master Teacher from Explorations in Math, will come to the fourth grade once a week for math class to provide assistance with engaging students with math games, differentiating for different ability levels, and strengthening math lessons. This will last for tend weeks before he moves on to other primary classrooms in the school. Dave writes a weekly blog called "Math Matters" that can be found online at www.explorationsinmath.org. This is for kids and parents, too. Go check it out.

Let's Keep the Traffic Moving Safely!
from Mrs. Wingard  •  for School year 2011-2012

We are doing our best to keep traffic flowing in the morning and after school. We ask that your drive southbound on 13th when dropping off and picking up your children. There is NO PARKING at any yellow curb. When picking up, if you don't see our child, please drive around the block so as to allow parents whose children are ready to be able to pick them up and go. If your child needs assistance getting in and out of the car, we ask that you park away from the school, outside the yellow zones, and walk to meet your child. We have also had reports of hurried drivers in the neighborhoods who are speeding due to tardiness. We ask that you respect our local community and maintain safe driving in the neighborhoods at all times. Police will be monitoring our area to ensure our safety.
