3rd Grade Newsletter

Dear Third Grade Families,

This is the last week with our classroom family! Next year brings more excitement with new discoveries and new friendships. I always get a bittersweet feeling because I am excited and proud of my students, but I will miss them dearly. I wish you a happy summer full of fun and good memories. I look forward to seeing everyone next year.

Here is detailed daily schedule for the week.

Monday...Proper uniform.
We will discuss the value of friendship as seen in Charlotte’s Web. Then we will analyze our friendships with individual classmates and create a “Friendship Book” for each person.

In the afternoon we will watch the cartoon version of Charlotte’s Web and compare it to the book. The students are always shocked when the character’s dialogue is directly pulled from the text.

We will also review some of the math games that are in the “Summer Games Bag.”

Tuesday...Proper uniform
Our last day with the specialists in Music and PE.

We wrap up our Friendship Books. We watch the movie Charlotte’s Web with live people and compare that to the cartoon and the book. We discuss why might changes have been made to the original story in either of the movies.

Wednesday...Proper uniform
Mrs. Davis will be subbing for me as I play the role of mother for the day with my son and his eighth grade class picnic.

Each child needs to bring sack lunch for the lunchtime field trip to Maplewood Park

Native American
Museum Fair

I have reserved the school hall for Friday, April 23 from 1:45-2:45 for the third grades' Native American Museum Fair. Your child will be displaying his or her village diorama of the tribe studied. Each child will act as a docent and teach visitors about the food, clothing, shelter and other cultural characteristics that are unique to his or her tribe.

This museum was a huge success last year and much awaited this year by your child. We hope you can schedule us in for a quick visit on the 23rd of April.
